『英語でD＆D（読書＆ディスカッション）CLUB』は日英翻訳者のフィリップとラジオパーソナリティのニキがホストする不定期開催の英語読書会です。

フィクション・ノンフィクション問わず、事前に読んできたテーマ本に関する感想や疑問をカジュアルに話し合います。

ディスカッションは英語メインで行われますが英語“ペラペラ“じゃなくても大丈夫！最初は聞くだけ参加もno problem！

今回取り上げるのは太宰治の『人間失格』です。

1948年に発表されたこの小説が今、海外の若者を中心にまた話題を集めているのをご存知でしょうか？
太宰が入水自殺する1ヶ月前に書き上げられ、75年経った今でもいくつもの映像化や多言語翻訳を通して多くの人を魅了しています。
青年の心の奥深い闇を探る作品の魅力を掘り下げながら自由に感想を述べ合いましょう。

難しい英語で語る必要はありません！
あくまで個人として思ったことを話せばいいだけ。
ディスカッションは基本英語で行われますが、

「難しい話についていけなかったらどうしよう…」

「英会話はできるけど、日本語訳しか読んでない…」

「そもそも読書会自体が初めて…」

大事なのは

「自分の考えを表現すること」
「間違いを恐れないこと」
「正解を求めないこと」
「分からなければ質問すること」
そして「他人の話を尊重すること」。

Our book club is aimed at people interested in reading contemporary literature (both fiction and non-fiction) as well meeting new people to have interesting conversations about said literature, discussing how we see it relating to our lives and society.

We are generally focused on reading titles that are either Japanese, or found to be relevant to an audience based in contemporary Japan.

Our meetings are designed to be held in English, but you do not have to fluent!

Both organizers (Nikki and Philip) are bilingual in Japanese and English, so feel free to participate even if English is not your first language.

The most important thing is to:

express yourself
not be afraid of mistakes
be open to uncertainties
ask questions if you are unsure
and – respect each other’s opinions!

This time we are discussing “No Longer Human” by Osamu Dazai. One of Japan’s best selling novels, it continues to pull in the hearts of readers 75 years after its release. Let us delve into the darkness of our protagonist’s heart and mind and share our findings and thoughts.
